I had a ticket home and a bowl of pepper soup that refused to be a stopover. Some dinners are logistics. This one was an argument for remaining.
Skip the monument. Walk the market until you know what is in season, who is arguing, and which stall would feed you if you lived here instead of passing through.
A single plate can be an apology or a small ceremony. The difference is whether you set the table for a person who happens to be yourself.
My mother's stew had a map in it: who had visited, who was broke, who needed to be forgiven. I am still learning to cook the version that includes me.
